Hougaard got his start playing poker in his home town of Copenhangen, Denmark shortly after watching a fellow Dane, Gus Hansen, compete on TV. It was Hansen’s play that motivated him initially, but after watching the television broadcast of his first major shot, the 2007 WSOP Main Event, which he eventually cashed in, he realized he played well and had what it took to compete at the highest levels in poker.

The following year at the 2008 World Series of Poker, Jesper Hougaard accomplished something the man that motivated him to play hadn’t yet done. He won a World Series of Poker Bracelet, taking down 2008 WSOP Event 36 – $1500 buy-in No Limit Texas Holdem, which included with it a $610,304 top place prize

Jesper Hougaard’s success didn’t stop at the 2008 WSOP in Vegas; later that year at the second annual World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE), he took down his second career bracelet by winning 2008 WSOPE Event 1 – £1,500 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold’em which also included a £144,218 top place prize for him to tack on to his career winnings.

With his win of a 2008 WSOPE, Jesper Hougaard became the first player to win WSOP bracelets on both sides of the Atlantic. This along with his $1,000,000 in career winnings is quite an accomplishment considering he is only 24 years old at the time this page was written (Birthdate: 1984),
