iPoker Network History

PlayTech is the software provider and host of the iPoker Network. The company, established in 1999, launched their first casino in 2001. After several years of development, their multiplayer poker product went live in 2004.

When iPoker launched there were dozens of other poker networks already in place. At the time OnGame, which powered Hollywood Poker and Poker Room.com, was the largest and most prestigious network, and there were dozens of medium sized networks such as Microgaming, Tribeca, CryptoLogic, and Tain, as well as a half dozen smaller sized networks. At the time of their launch it would have been a bold statement to say that they had any chance of becoming the largest poker network in the world, but after just a few years time they became just that.

Of the networks that once existed, the iPoker Network has merged with a consumed Tribecca, moved all Tain sites to their network, attracted several Microgaming and OnGames clients over to their network and, most recently, has merged with and will soon consume the CryptoLogic Networks as well. In just three short years time, the iPoker Network has distanced itself from all competition including once leading OnGame which is now a distant second place in terms of size. The Microgaming Network continues to operate but is now medium small at best.

One of iPoker’s claims to success has been their ability to sell well established and highly prestigious brands on the benefits of the networking concept. Bet365, which is the 16th largest private company in the UK period, has been in business since 1974, and is only one example of highly successful and well known Main Street bookmakers which have joined the iPoker Network.
